Former Pyrenean capital of the upper middle class, the Cauterets ski resort developed during the "Roaring Twenties" and then enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in the 1960s thanks to its thermal springs and enviable location in the Pyrenees National Park. This mountain resort is popular with those wanting to ski in a preserved environment that retains a certain elegance. Looking for an original skiing holiday in the Pyrenees? Cauterets combines tradition with comfort and hospitality to exceed expectations. The typical architecture and stunning views from its elevated position at 992m altitude will delight mountain lovers, and passionate gliders will love the connections Cauterets has to two skiing areas: the Pont d'Espagne and the Cirque de Lys. This year, the Cirque du Lys ski area will open from the end of November to April, and the Pont d'Espagne ski area from December to March (for Nordic skiing), depending on snow conditions.

Ski area focus

The Cirque du Lys ski area enjoys exceptional snow coverage thanks to its ideal position, and was recognized as "the snowiest in the world" in February 2013. On site, you'll find beginners areas, a sledge area and Oakley Park - the first freestyle park in the Pyrenees. There is a 20-module bordercross course including an O-rail and stairset. As for the slopes, take turns sliding down the variety of runs including 4 greens, 7 blues, 7 reds, and 2 blacks connected by 12 lifts. Steep slopes in some of the areas ensure adrenaline junkies get their fix. Additional facilities include catering, a mini-club for 3-7 year-olds and a ski school with knowledgeable instructors to make things easier during your stay in Cauterets. The Pont d'Espagne ski area focuses on Nordic and downhill skiing. There are 5 cross-country ski trails (totaling 36.5km), 6km of marked trails for pedestrians and snowshoe hikers, a protected toboggan run and 3 alpine ski slopes (1 red, 1 blue and a beginner area) making up this beautiful space.
