Thanks to its clean air and favorable geographical location, the city is home to the National Alpine Training Center and receives athletes from all over the world throughout the year. Located west of Pyrenees-Orientales, the ski resort of Font-Romeu enjoys exceptional sunshine and great snow coverage. The Font-Romeu ski area is located between 1650m to 2250m above sea level. It is home to 43km of alpine skiing and 111km of Nordic ski trails between fir trees and magnificent open areas. Skiers can test their skills on the 15 green pistes, 10 blue, 9 red or 9 black in the area. They will also be able to enjoy a snowpark consisting of 3 mogul trails, a line of rails and boxes, a boardercross course, 2 big air lines, slide and kick ramps and a space reserved entirely for beginners. Always at the forefront of technology, the Font-Romeu ski area has installed a DC Live Park. This enables filming of passages and different modules, thanks to an electronic chip attached to the helmet. Simply connect to the Internet to review videos of these exploits! There is also a huge play area for children and beginners (20 hectares) with 6 green slopes (2 for the youngest), 2 mini boardercross courses, 2 ski lifts, 1 baby ski lift, a ski run, a toboggan run and a games and entertainment area. Whether you are a beginner or an aspiring athlete, solo traveller or one of the family, the ski area of Font-Romeu will meetyou're your requirements.
If you want to vary your sporting pursuits and spend some time relaxing in the mountains, Font-Romeu is your ideal destination! Take a dogsled ride, snowshoe walk or a lap of the skate rink before visiting a local restaurant to try one of the area's specialty dishes. Soak up some cultural and natural heritage (visit the cave of Fontrabiouse, solar oven, Romanesque architecture, animal park, etc.), or sample one of the many other activitiy and entertainment options. You're sure to find something at Font-Romeu, whatever your interests. The Yellow Train to Cerdagne is a noteable highlight. Built at the beginning of the century, in 1903, the train line connects the fortified city of Villefranche-de-Conflent to the international station of Latour de Carol.
