Ski resort Information

Located between 800m and 1600m above sea level, Sixt-fer-à-cheval is an ideal base for enjoying mountain sports. Classified natural sites (more than 80% of the territory is registered as a nature reserve), easy access to the Grand Massif ski area and a welcoming atmosphere make Sixt-hors-cheval an excellent family resort. Combining sporting pleasures and outdoor holidays in a truly extraordinary setting, the resort has its own ski area as well as good connections to the Grand Massif ski area via shuttle buses. The Sixt-Fer-à-cheval ski area will be open from December to March, depending on snow conditions.

Ski area focus

The Sixt-Fer-à-cheval ski area is fairly modest yet complete with 12 pistes totaling 34km of glide, connected by 6 ski lifts. The area is linked to the Grand Massif (the 3rd largest connected ski area in the French Alps) by the magnificent Cascades (blue) slope, and you can also reach the site using the free shuttle. The Grand Massif ski area offers access to 148 alpine ski slopes (20 green, 64 blue, 50 red and 14 black) spread across 265km. This diverse range of runs allows skiers of all levels to descend the slopes at their own pace. From the beginner to the seasoned professional, from children to grandparents and everyone in between, there is something to keep everyone happy in the Grand Massif. Several recreational areas have been set up on the connected resorts, including an excellent boardercross at Les Carroz, whoops, slaloms and banks in Flaine, a safari itinerary in Morillon and a nice dragon for children in Sixt-fer-à-Cheval.

Off-ski activities

Sixt is not only famous for easy access to the Grand-Massif, it is above all a stunning village anchored in a perfectly unspoiled patch of nature. The Cirque du Fer-à-Cheval, Gorges des Tines, Cascade du Rouget and 12th century abbey attract almost as much attention as the slopes from lovers of culture and history. For the biggest range of winter activities, you can simply go to the Grand-Massif to enjoy the facilities of its connected resorts. You can try ski joëring, dog sledding, horse-drawn carriage rides, paragliding, snowmobiling, sledding and many other recreational sports. For a truly unique experience, the area also offers you the chance to spend a night in igloo or yurt!
